After experimenting with different Kool Aid flavors Chef Matt Levin shares Adsum's pickled watermelon recipe and some pictures he took along the way. Try making some at home and let us know how it turns out.
Tropical punch Kool-aid pickle
1 cp tropical punch kool-aid powder
½ cp red wine vinegar
2 qt water
1 bunch basil
3 inch piece ginger peeled and chopped
2 stalks lemongrass smashed
5 bay leafs
25 black peppercorns
Combine all and reserve for red watermelon
Orange kool-aid watermelon pickle
1 cp orange kool-aid powder
1/3 cp rice wine vinegar
2 ½ qt water brought to a boil
10 star anise
1/8 cp Szechwan peppercorns
1 bulb fennel chopped
Bring water to a boil and pour over all the other
ingredients
Allow to cool and reserve
Blue raspberry lemonade kool-aid pickle
2 cp blue raspberry lemonade kool-aid powder
1 cp rice vinegar
1 qt water
1 qt crushed ice
½ cp white peppercorns
½ cp fennel seed
2 bunches lemon verbena bruised
Combine all and reserve for yellow watermelon
